About us.

Gore Street Capital is an experienced renewable energy and private equity investment manager.

Our sectors.

Renewable energy solutions derived from nature’s abundant resources are shaping the future of our planet by harnessing sunlight, wind, water movement, and geothermal heat to generate power — without the environmental toll of burning fossil fuels.

The shift to sustainable sources is already in full swing, with solar panels and wind turbines outpacing the development of fossil fuels. Investing in renewable energy is essential to accelerating this transition, and we are poised to lead the way by managing impactful clean energy investments, focusing on advancing energy storage systems.

Energy storage market.

Utility-scale batteries and other forms of energy storage have emerged to help balance the supply and demand of increasingly diverse generation sources. Rising output from renewable generators leads to higher volatility on the grid, with power flows varying throughout the day. Systems that receive, store, and deliver energy when needed – often in the form of electricity – have developed rapidly to meet the rising demand for flexibility to balance the grid.

The use of energy storage solutions to balance supply and demand maintains the electricity grid system at the correct frequency to help keep the lights on, while ensuring as much renewable generation as possible is used. Governments, grid system operators, technology companies and the investment community have all recognised this value and are facilitating the growth of energy storage technologies and clean energy investments.

The association and its members engage with policy makers to support and facilitate the development of energy storage solutions to contribute to the decarbonisation of Ireland’s energy system.

FAQs

Who are we?

Gore Street Capital (“GSC”) is a private equity manager specialising in the renewable energy sector, operating across the public and private markets. GSC’s subsidiary, Gore Street Investment Management Limited (“GSIM”) is the Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM) for Gore Street Energy Storage Fund (LSE: GSF), the UK’s first listed pure-play energy storage fund, as well as a private vehicle based in Japan. The group currently has over £550 million in assets under management/advisory and operates across three continents and six energy systems. As a renewable energy company, we’re dedicated to driving clean energy investments that support the global transition to sustainable energy.

What is energy storage?

Energy storage systems capture excess energy generated by variable renewable sources and discharge it when needed. Energy storage systems reduce imbalances between energy demand and supply and reduce costs for consumers. In addition, these systems provide grid operators with balancing services and protect against system intermittency, which is largely caused by the addition of renewable sources of electricity, such as wind turbines and solar farms, to the grid.

Why is energy storage important?

Energy storage solutions are critical to the integration of renewable energy generation on the grid, which is inherently variable throughout the day. The ability to effectively capture, store and discharge renewable energy when it is most needed can have a significant impact on the efficiency of our energy systems and help us use less fossil fuels.
